Man, 20, arrested on suspicion of rape in Alfreton

A 20-year-old man has been arrested today on suspicion of rape. The man was detained by officers from Alfreton Town Safer Neighbourhood Team. A spokesman for Derbyshire police said the man was arrested in relation to an ongoing rape investigation which relates to an alleged incident earlier this month. HGV and cars crash on M1 causing long tailbacks

One lane on the M1 near Alfreton has been closed due to a crash involving an HGV and two cars, causing major tailbacks. The collision happened on the northbound carriageway at around 5pm between junction 28 for Alfreton and 29 for Chesterfield. A thug wearing a child's mask attacked an elderly man in his own home with what appeared to be a gun. Robert Taylor, 40, repeatedly hit his victim over the head with the weapon - but the man fought back and ripped his mask off. It all happened in the victim's hallway where his wife was too.
